As luck would have it, I got an opportunity to start this New Year with scintillating calligraphy exhibition hosted by Akshaya Thombre at Nehru Centre Art Gallery. Akshaya is my friend from "Achyut Palav School of Calligraphy" who is among the new generation of inspired calligraphers with imagination and heightened sense of aesthetic.
While working with
basics of calligraphy she came across many other traditional fonts in the world
of calligraphy but the movement and stiffness of the Fraktur and Gothic fonts
drew her attention. Along with that she came across different versions of the
combinations of these two fonts. And at that time, she thought of introducing
her own, new version of black letters to the world which gave her a new
identity in this field. For her, calligraphy is not only beautiful handwriting
but also much more to explore in these traditional letter forms. While working
on these paintings, she twisted the letters, gave a touch of basic
calligraphy, broke the letters, merged the letters, painted the letters and beautifully
blended both traditional and modern calligraphy, which when displayed today,
captivated everyone’s eyes.Use of variety of
Painting techniques, texture variance, different mediums and multiple colors
added feathers to her abstract form of art.
Yesterday, this
exhibition was inaugurated by Renowned Indian screen-writer & advertising
professional Shri. Kamlesh Pande, in the presence of chief guest Shri. Santosh
Kshirsagar (Dean, Sir.J.J Institute of Applied Art), Guest of honour Salva
Rasool( Eminent Arabic calligrapher) and Akshaya's guru Shri Achyut Palav. This
beautiful artwork is going to be present for all for next 7 days. There, even a
common man will get connected with every piece of art. Her artwork inspires
even the people who doesn't know calligraphy, and gives new vision to artists
to view the inexperienced magical world beyond calligraphy. This exhibition is
worth watching for all to explore themselves along with calligraphy. The
magnificent art created by this young artist is worth experiencing than just
reading about it. So, visit and motivate one more arising talent in India.
